PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK - 26 September 2008

Andrew Hamer

Andrew's photo was taken from the Port Hills on 19 August 2008 looking south over Lyttelton. Camera is a Canon A580.

Mike Allis

Mike wrote 'attached is a photo taken on my honeymoon of a nice double rainbow taken from South Stradbroke Island just north of the Gold Coast. I was amazed at how the light dramatically changes within the inner rainbow, especially closer to the ground. Both rainbows were visible for almost 180°, only the camera couldn't pick the whole lot up. Taken on 16 February 2008 at about 15:30 after a few hours of thunderstorms rolling past and some of the heaviest rain I've ever experienced. Olympus Mu 'low light' mode, auto.'

Matt Dwen

'Hey James, I shot this while waiting for a hockey game to start on Saturday 16 August 2008 at around 16:30. Location is North Harbour Hockey Stadium, Rosedale, Auckland. Stormy showers were passing through quite frequently, but there was enough of a break in the clouds behind us to give a great double rainbow demonstration. Thanks for the great site!' wrote Matt.

Karen Hassell

Karen wrote 'This photo was taken at Princess Wharf in Auckland as the tug assisted the P&O cruise ship, Pacific Sun, to dock on 1 June 2008. It was a very foggy morning and the sun was trying to break through. This was taken on a Fujifilm Finepix S304.'

Adam Gray

This was on a sailing trip in October 2007, taken somewhere off the East Coast of the North Island (looking west), as a storm approaches. Taken with a Pentax Optio W30 on 20 October 2007 at about 18:10.

Stew Scott

Stefanie Freeston wrote 'Hello James, this picture was taken by my partner Stew Scott on Good Friday, 21 March 2008 in Akaroa at 09:45. The camera used was a digital Pentax Optio (5.0 megapixels) camera on auto settings.'

Sarah Ensor

Sarah wrote 'Hi James, ....particularly liked the contrasts in this image. Taken flying over the Puketeraki Range into Lees Valley (Canterbury), late afternoon on Friday 15 September 2008. Could have been sharper if I knew what I was doing (afraid it was just quickly point and click with a digital camera). Enjoy your site and the other contributors' photos.'

Ginnie Woolf

'Hi James, Metvuw is awesome - I use it a lot as it is so accurate and reliable, and so here is an image I hope will be considered for your photograph of the week on the website. Photo was taken whilst driving to work on a gloomy mid-winter morning looking back north towards Nelson. It was a late start to work this particular morning as I pulled over to the side of the road to admire the sun beams desperately trying to break through the cloud. Canon EOS400D ISO200 1/500 f5.6, Kind regards, Ginnie Woolf'

Croc Buchanan

Two sunset photographs from Croc Buchanan, he wrote, 'Great weather site I use at least daily for more detailed forecasts on the West Coast. As you know it can be completly different weather at either end as systems move past, taken from home just south of Greymouth using a Canon Ixus 75.'
